COLE RULED OUT OF WIGAN MATCH

Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has ruled out left back Ashley Cole for the match against Wigan in the weekend. Ashley Cole suffered an ankle injury during the match against Benfica on Wednesday night.

He is amazing run into the box and Chelsea the penalty, which was duly converted by Frank Lampard. It proved to be the difference between the two clubs, as Chelsea made it into the semifinals of the Champions League nervously.

As a result of the ankle injury, Roberto di Matteo has revealed that he will not be risking Ashley Cole in the match against Wigan, especially with a huge number of matches coming up for Chelsea.

Roberto di Matteo has also revealed that Frank Lampard is also a major injury doubt for the match against Wigan. John Terry has already been ruled out of the match after suffering two fractured ribs, although he has indicated that he will continue to play with the pain barrier. Chelsea have two matches in a span of 48 hours, as they face London neighbours Fulham on Monday night. Chelsea will be looking to close the gap on both Arsenal and Tottenham in these two matches, as the next Premier league match will be against Arsenal – a match that will be sandwiched between the semifinals involving Barcelona.

"Ashley Cole has twisted his ankle so won't be available, and maybe we will have to see about Frank Lampard. Frank got a knock just above his knee on his thigh muscle and is struggling for that at the moment. For tomorrow it is those three, we will assess them again and see for Monday. John Terry won't be available for tomorrow, so we have to see how quickly he can recover," Roberto di Matteo said ahead of the match against Wigan on Saturday.
