Mourinho to talk to Ashley Cole

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will indeed speak to left back Ashley Cole whose contract at the club is set to expire at the end of the month.

Cole played just seventeen matches for the club last term – his lowest ever total for a single season at the club – with Spanish wing back Cesar Azpilicueta keeping the former England man confined to the bench for the majority of the season.

Cole was left in tears following the club’s last game at home at Stamford Bridge and wrote on Twitter that he expects that to be his last ever game for the club in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful and said that he was most likely to leave the club and was weighing up his options for the future.

Veteran defender and former England captain John Terry has signed a new one year contract extension at the club but another former England team mate Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard has been allowed to leave the club on a free transfer after thirteen years at the club.

And the Portuguese manager has insisted that the situation with Cole is different to that of Lampard. He said that he got the chance to speak about the future with Lampard a couple of weeks before the Premier League ended but he didn’t get that opportunity with Cole.

He added that these are different situations and he will see what happens.

Cole has no dearth of suitors for his signature with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool all keen on signing the former England left back.

But Ashley Cole, who is currently on vacation in the United States of America has said that he is yet to make up his mind regarding the future and will decide when he returns.

Mourinho Refuses Ruling Out Col Extension

Chelsea manager José Mourinho has refused to rule out the possibility of Ashley Cole extending his contract with the club. He is one of three players at Chelsea with only a few weeks remaining on their contracts. Frank Lampard and John Terry are the other two players. These three have been very crucial to the success Chelsea have enjoyed in the last decade. Losing their experience within the team will be a major blow. Combined together, they have made more than 1000 appearances for the club. John Terry alone has 621 appearances for the club since making the debut in 1998.

Cole has been a Chelsea player since his £ 5 million move from Arsenal in 2006. He has won every possible trophy with the club during this period. The Champions League title was the only thing missing from his cabinet and this was added after remarkable win in 2012. The defender has been linked with a move to the MLS in the last few months. He has been getting very little first-team action with Chelsea in the second half of the season. Despite this, Mourinho has stated that the appearance of Cole in the final match of the season against Cardiff may not be his last for the club.

“I don’t know but I don’t think so. I do my written reports to the board during the season and with the final report at the end where I try to have my point of view, analysing every aspect of the season,” said Mourinho speaking ahead of the Cardiff match. This has been a disappointing season for Chelsea even with the arrival of Mourinho. The club, though, reached the semifinals of the Champions League where they were beaten by Atletico Madrid. The club are also set to finish third in the league table.
