Danny Rose hoping to take opportunity versus Belgium

England international Danny Rose is hoping to take the opportunity against Belgium, should Gareth Southgate decide to make wholesale changes for the World Cup meeting. Rose has so far come off the bench for the Three Lions with Ashley Young being the preferred choice for the left wing-back spot but he remains optimistic of getting a start versus the Red Devils.

In a report covered by Evening Standard, Rose admitted that Young had a better season, with Manchester United, and he cannot complain regarding the manager’s preference for his compatriot. Nevertheless, he is prepared to take his chance, should an opportunity arise during the country’s remaining games of the World Cup.

Nevertheless, he is prepared to take his chance, should an opportunity arise during the country’s remaining games of the World Cup.

He said: “The manager said that Young has had a really good season at United. He has had a lot of games and has had a rhythm. What can I say to that? I can’t argue with it. He is right in what he said. Am I as fit as I was before my injury? No. I was playing two or three games a week then. This season I have been lucky to play one a week. I support Young and my team in any way possible. If I am given a chance tomorrow or in the next rounds I have to be ready to take it.”

Rose had become the country’s first-choice left-back during the 2016 European Championship in France but he thereafter suffered a long-term knee injury which hampered his gametime. Since then, he has dropped down the pecking order for both club and country and he has previously admitted that he was lucky to have made the squad after making just 10 Premier League appearances during a difficult 2017/18 campaign. England are presently leading their group ahead of Belgium on the Fair Play card but both teams should tackle each other with no fears on Thursday after sealing their progress into the round of 16.

Ashley Cole backs Wayne Rooney to succeed in MLS

LA Galaxy defender Ashley Cole has backed Wayne Rooney to shine upon his prospective move to DC United this summer. The former England international only returned to his hometown club Everton from Manchester United last summer but he is still understood to be considering a fresh challenge in the MLS.

Speaking about Rooney’s potential move, Cole said: “It’s always different to the Premier League. We’re getting older when we leave, so he’s not going to be the 18-year-old Wayne Rooney. But I think he’s still got enough quality for this league.I’m excited if he does come to be able to play against him again. When you look at the calibre of players that have come, most of them have won trophies and understand that mentality of winning. That never goes away. You see players want to come and want to work for their team.”

Rooney re-joined the Toffees after a 13-year stay with Manchester United last season and he made a strong start to his campaign. The 32-year-old found the scoresheet 10 times before the turn of the year but his form thereafter nosedived with then-manager Sam Allardyce tending to rotate him for the Premier League duties.
The former Champions League winner has yet to agree upon a potential switch to North America but the early indications are he could be sold off with the Toffees hierarchy aiming to recoup valuable funds for their incoming head coach. As per reports, DC United are the front runners to pursue the striker’s signature with a fee of around £8m likely to push through an agreement.
Meanwhile, Everton are yet to announce their new manager since parting ways with manager Sam Allardyce. Dutchman Marcel Brands has recently been appointed as their new director of football and the 56-year-old is likely to be tasked with the job of recruiting the next head coach.

Ashley Cole speaks on his England experience

LA Galaxy captain Ashley Cole has discussed his journey with the England national side whilst giving an outlook on the current Three Lions squad. The 37-year-old is widely regarded as one of England’s finest full-backs and the veteran has now spoken about the honour of representing the national team.Speaking to MLSsoccer.com, he said: “As a young kid, you never dream of getting one cap or making it as a professional footballer, let alone representing your country at a World Cup. [I’ve got] great memories, great memories.”

Meanwhile, Cole believes the current squad has a good chance of winning the World Cup though they may require some luck along the way, he added: “It looks good on paper, you know. But when you’re playing in World Cups and European Championships, it’s different. I hope they’ve got that mentality to stick together, and when the luck’s not going their way, they stick together. With the quality they have, they have a good chance.”

England have certainly gone through a transition from the previous World Cup in Brazil where they were shockingly ousted in the group stage. Unlike back then, the Three Lions now have a deadly goalscorer in the form of Harry Kane leading the squad whilst the goalkeeping side of their game has also been strengthened with Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland providing more assurance between the sticks.

Nevertheless, their true quality may only come on display at the 2018 World Cup where they have the pressure of the nation behind them. On paper, England should at least reach the quarter-final of the World Cup with ease based on the opposition they have been pitted against but stranger things have happened with the Three Lions, who often fail to show up on the big stage. England’s previous major tournament was the European Championship in France where they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to minnows Iceland.
