Ferdinand Claims He Does Not Plan To Follow In Cole's Footsteps

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he does not plan to follow in the footsteps of former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, who recently joined Italian club Roma on a two-year contract. Regarded as one of the best left backs in the world, Chelsea decided not to extend the contract of the 33-year-old as he was coming to the end of his career. It was widely speculated that Cole would be joining a club in the MLS or Middle East. However, he surprised everyone by staying in one of top European leagues after signing for Roma.

Lloris could still be sold, despite claims to stay.

Although Hugo Lloris has said that he is not going anywhere away from Tottenham Hotspur, but, everybody has the idea that in professional soccer, the statements made by the players and the officials don’t always point towards the actual scenario. Things can be very different from what has been said.

Lloris is optimistic about his stay at White Hart Lane purely because of the no. of years that is still remaining for his contract to finish. But, there is every possibility that he would be sold if somebody comes with an extremely high bid.

Mourinho to talk to Ashley Cole

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will indeed speak to left back Ashley Cole whose contract at the club is set to expire at the end of the month.

Cole played just seventeen matches for the club last term – his lowest ever total for a single season at the club – with Spanish wing back Cesar Azpilicueta keeping the former England man confined to the bench for the majority of the season.

Mourinho Refuses Ruling Out Col Extension

Chelsea manager José Mourinho has refused to rule out the possibility of Ashley Cole extending his contract with the club. He is one of three players at Chelsea with only a few weeks remaining on their contracts. Frank Lampard and John Terry are the other two players. These three have been very crucial to the success Chelsea have enjoyed in the last decade. Losing their experience within the team will be a major blow. Combined together, they have made more than 1000 appearances for the club. John Terry alone has 621 appearances for the club since making the debut in 1998.

COLE IS CLOSE

Chelsea manager José Mourinho has revealed that defender Ashley Cole is close to returning to full training, but he does not want to reveal if the former Arsenal man will be recalled to the first-team when he comes back to the squad.

After being first-team regular throughout his career, Cole is finding himself as a backup to Azpilicueta, who is a right back played out of position. It is widely expected that Cole will leave Chelsea at the end of the season. He has been used sparingly in the second half of the campaign after committing several mistakes in the first.

PRESSURE IS ON

Ahead of Norwich’s visit to play Southampton, Norwich city defender Robert Snodgrass has increased the pressure on Southampton’s young defender Luke Shaw by claiming that he would rather take Ashley Cole to the World Cup 2014.

The 18-year-old has been regarded as the latest sensation in Premier league football with several club like Chelsea and Manchester United ready to pay in excess of £ 25 million for the left back. This would make him one of the most expensive left back in the world.

Backed By Chelsea Coach

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has backed Ashley Cole and said that he is in the best form of his life and should definitely make it to the England squad which will go for the World Cup in Brazil. He insisted on the fact that Ashley deserves a place in the squad because of his recent form and it would be really bad if he is not there in the team.

TIME TO GO?

It looks like Ashley Cole’s Chelsea career is not too far away from getting over. The contract of the veteran left back at Stamford Bridge will end next summer and according to the reports, the club management is not interested at all in handing him a contract extension.

Cole who has been a member of the Chelsea squad since more than 7 years now has already played 225 Premier League matches for his current club. But, in this season, he has been ignored in favour of the young Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta.

COLE WANTS TO STAY

Ashley Cole doesn’t have any plans to make a move away from Stamford Bridge during the upcoming mid-season transfer window.

He wants to remain at Chelsea and is hoping that he gets a contract extension in the second half of the ongoing season.
Cole’s form of late has been quite poor and he hasn’t been named even in the match day squads of Chelsea in some of their recent games.
