According to the striker, its fitness and not the age which should be taken into account when the manager sits to pick the players.

Defoe has been quite productive for the Black Cats of late finding the net as many as 5 times with the season just about two-week old.

The veteran was overlooked last year when Roy Hodgson named his squad for World Cup and that had left him deeply gutted. It had come to him as an absolute shock.
