ARSENAL DEBUT EXPERIENCE IS PRICELESS – HOYTE

Former Arsenal and Middlebrough defender Justin Hoyte has revealed that the experience of making his debut for the Gunners is priceless and that the memory will stay with him forever. Hoyte is a boyhood Arsenal fan and he was delighted to play his first game for the club as a substitute for Jermaine Pennant in the second half of the Southampton game in the Premier League towards the end of the 2002/03 season. The Trinidad and Tobago international came on in the 89th minute of the game which ended in a 6-1 win for Arsenal.

Hoyte sat down with Gunnerstown to talk about his Arsenal debut experience, his career in general and many more. He was a young right-back when he made his Arsenal debut in May 2003. Hoyte came on as a substitute for Pennant who left the field to a standing ovation after he scored three goals to lead the Gunners to victory at the expense of the Saints. He described making his debut for Arsenal as an amazing experience.

When asked about what happened during the game, Hoyte said he didn’t remember much and that he still has memories of the anticipation and pre-match preparation for the English top flight game. Hoyte remembered being on the bus with players like Ashley Cole, Jermaine Pennant and many more. The defender went on to say that he had discussions with the likes of Jermaine Pennant and Ashley Cole before the game. Ashley Cole was already the undisputed first choice left-back at the club, while Jermaine Pennant was not a regular in the starting XI.

Hoyte also said that he wished that he pushed more for a regular berth in that Arsenal team under legendary manager Arsene Wenger and that it was not the easiest of tasks considering the world-class talent at the club.

WENGER, A MANAGERIAL INFLUENCE FOR COLE

Englishman Ashley Cole has named Arsene Wenger as one of his managerial influences as he begins his career in management. In a recent interview made by Ashley Cole and quoted by Sun Sports, the Ex-England international left-back detailed how Wenger supported him at the start of his career as a professional footballer. According to him, Wenger trusted the process as he believed that the fullback was destined for greatness.

Ashley Cole revealed how legendary Arsenal manager Wenger let the game be the teacher at times and that he didn’t take him out of the team despite making a lot of mistakes at the start of his career with the Arsenal first team.
Cole learnt a lot of thingsfrom Wenger during his time as the Arsenal manager. Wenger is widely regarded as the greatest manager in Arsenal’s history. The Frenchman won three Premier League titles including one in his first full season as an Arsenal manager. He also masterminded seven FA Cup title wins and seven Community Shields in North London.

Ashley Cole started his coaching career as a support for ex-international teammate Frank Lampard at Derby County. He was recently named the assistant in the England Under-21s in what’s his first major job since he decided to turn to management at the end of his football career.

Cole recently advised Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on his response to an invitation to play for the England Under-21s. According to him, Hudson-Odoi risk being neglected by senior team manager Gareth Southgate for turning down an invitation to the Under-21s. Instead of honouring the call up to the team last month, Hudson-Odoi opted to stay at Chelsea as he bids to get more playing time under Thomas Tuchel. Ashley Cole advised Hudson-Odoi to use the Under-21s as a stepping stone for the senior team.

SHAW REVEALS HIS TWO FOOTBALL IDOLS

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has mentioned Ashley Cole and David Beckham as his football idols. He made this known in his recent interview monitored by English publication Metro. According to him, he would have played alongside Ashley Cole and Manchester United legend Beckham.

Cole is widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in the history of the England national team and he won the Premier League title with both Arsenal and Chelsea. For Beckham, the Inter Miami co-owner spent eleven (11) years at Manchester United, winning six Premier League titles. He’s seventh on the all-time list of Premier League assists with a return of 80 in 265 matches.

Shaw would have loved to play with Ashley Cole and David Beckham who are his football idols as established earlier. On club teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Shaw also referred to him as his idol and that he’s already fulfilling the desire of playing alongside the Portugal international.

On Cole, Shaw cheekily said that he won’t be able to play in the starting XI if he was in the same team as the retired England national team player since they play in the same left-back position. He said that he loved Cole while growing up and that the Englishman was one of the best left-backs in the world for several years. Shaw said that he looked up to him as he watched him play for Chelsea. The Manchester United defender stated that he went to Chelsea games several times as a young age to watch Cole in action and the Three Lions man looked up to him since he was also a left-back.

On Beckham, Shaw revealed that the ex-Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star is a massive role model to a lot of people directly or indirectly connected to football.

CHELSEA: COLE LAUDS LUKAKU RETURN

Retired England international left-back Ashley Cole has praised the return of RomeluLukaku to Stamford Bridge after the deal was announced earlier this month.

Ashley Cole believes that Belgian international Lukaku is the final piece to manager Thomas Tuchel’s puzzle at Chelsea. The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender was speaking at Three’s store launch on King’s Road. According to him, Lukaku has improved his all-round game since his exit from the Premier League two years ago.

Lukaku was a Chelsea player until 2013 when he was shipped to Everton by the club in a £28m deal. He was an Everton player until Manchester United paid around £75m to sign him in 2017. He didn’t work out as expected at Old Trafford. Lukaku was a Manchester United player for two seasons only before a club-record deal to Inter Milan was sanctioned in 2019.

Lukaku improved a great deal under Italian tactician Antonio Conte who was the mastermind behind his move to the Italian Serie A. He scored 24 goals last season in the league as he helped Inter Milan win it for the first time in over ten years.

Ashley Cole believes that Lukaku will add his qualities to the Chelsea attack especially in his all-round game which has improved. He said Chelsea lacked someone who has that specific quality and that Lukaku will provide them with that.

Chelsea paid around £98m to secure the transfer of Lukaku from Inter Milan this summer.

Ashley Cole believes that Lukaku’s leadership qualities would be very important at Chelsea as there a lot of quality players coming through at the club. He said that Lukaku has been able to prove his doubters wrong with his footballing abilities over the last two years in the colours of Inter Milan.

Lukaku is on course to make his debut in the London Derby clash at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal in a Premier League encounter on Sunday.

ASHLEY COLE LANDS FIRST MAJOR MANAGERIAL JOB

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been handed his first professional managerial job after he was appointed as the head coach of the England Under-19 team. The former Blues man has been working on obtaining his coaching badges in the last couple of months and after already recording progress and significant development in his new career path, he has been rewarded with his first major appointment. Cole, who has worked as a pundit since retiring from professional football will now be looking forward to having himself a great career as a head coach and will take up the job officially in the near future.

He will now join a list of former players who have gone on to test their credentials in football management after the attempts made by Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney, and many others. Neville particularly endured a poor spell in his attempt to be a manager after his failed career at Spanish La Liga club Valencia.

Lampard, however, has tested himself at Derby County and Chelsea while Gerrard is doing remarkably well at Scottish Premiership Champions Rangers and has even been tipped to become a Liverpool manager in the future. Rooney, on the other hand, is the current manager at Derby County and even though he is yet to enjoy consistent success at the club, he is continuing to look forward to that achievement.

Cole will be hoping that he can have a great career and start his new role on the front foot and make a name for himself with the England Under-19s before deciding whether or not he will be interested in working at a football club later in the future – possibly at Chelsea, where he spent his playing career.

COLE SAYS CHILWELL WILL HAVE A GREAT CAMPAIGN NEXT SEASON

After not getting enough chance to play for England at the Euros, Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell is already looking forward to next season and the club’s former player Ashley Cole has insisted that the former Leicester City man will make a huge impact next season. Chilwell was called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Three Lions’ Euros campaign but he was unfortunately not able to displace the in-form Luke Shaw as the Manchester United left-back continued the brilliant form that he ended last season with.

Shaw was the preferred option for England by Southgate and he continued to show that it was a great choice to have put him ahead of his Chelsea rival in the pecking order. Aside from scoring a beautiful goal (assisted by Kieran Trippier) against eventual winners Italy in the final, Shaw created a host of big chances and had a couple of assists to his name as well. He was undroppable and that was particularly the reason Chilwell had to spend more time on the bench.

However, according to Cole, the Chelsea star will have a great campaign next season and will endeavor to not allow the Euros experience to have a toll on his performance in the coming campaign. Cole started by mentioning that Chilwell is an excellent player following the fantastic season he had with Chelsea in the last campaign, including the lovely goal he scored against Porto in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League clash. The defender also had some assists to his name and Cole says he believes that there will be more from him next season.

Finally, Cole added that Chilwell will be a key player for p next season and that he has an important role to play for Chelsea in their title push as well
