THIAGO SILVA EMULATES COLE, LAMPARD, OTHERS

Veteran Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has joined other Chelsea legends such as Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Petr Cech and others in winning at least 100 caps for their respective countries. The ex-AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) centre back made appearance no. 100 for the Selecao as a substitute against Colombia earlier this month.

Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard represented the Three Lions of England for several years. Didier Drogba also played for many years in the colours of the Elephants of Ivory Coast, while Petr Cech and Eden Hazard are from Czech Republic and Belgium respectively. Ashley Cole, ex-Derby County boss Lampard, Didier Drogbaand Petr Cech have all retired from football, while Real Madrid playmaker Hazard is still an active footballer.

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva was unable to mark the occasion of his century with a win after the Brazilians were forced to a goalless draw by their hosts. Brazil failed to win a qualifying match ahead of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament for the first time via the result from the Colombia game.
Thiago Silva had earlier featured for Brazil as they came from behind to beat Venezuela 3-1 away from home in the qualifying game before the matchup with the Colombians. After the stalemate with Colombia, Brazil returned to winning ways by thrashing Uruguay 4-1 at home and Thiago Silva was also involved in the game against the Uruguayans.
With seven points from the three aforementioned games in October, Thiago Silva and Brazil were able to maintain their six-point lead over arch rivals Argentina with seven games left to play for the two giants of South American and world football. Brazil have 31 points from 11 games in the qualifiers, while Argentina have 25 points from the same number of games.
